Last week, SilkRoad announced the winners of the 2017 Talent Activation Awards, created to honor outstanding employer branding and design, innovative candidate-to-new hire experiences, and strategic excellence in leveraging the onboarding process to activate talent to drive business outcomes. Presented at Connections, SilkRoad’s annual user conference, the awards included a top overall honor (Talent Activation) and three subcategories honoring outstanding program elements: Strategic ROI, Best Brand Experience, and New Hire Enablement.

Top honors were awarded to:

Talent Activation Award: Newlink

Yesenia Orozco – Senior Learning Executive, Newlink

Newlink’s overall strategy included meaningful and purposeful touchpoints throughout the new hire’s journey, ensuring new hires understand their role and how it contributes to overarching corporate goals, as well as how to obtain the tools and resources to make a positive impact on the organization.

Newlink’s strategy enables employees to control their own journeys and provides the ability to give feedback along the way to continually improve their experience. They took employee feedback to heart and implemented an agile performance process to incorporate a more user-friendly approach to performance management.

Honorees in subcategories:

New Hire Enablement Award – TRI Pointe Group

Eva Brunell – Director, Human Resources, TRI Pointe Group

TRI Pointe Group’s strategy connected employees to the organization, their team members and other cross-departmental teams as soon as possible to ensure they felt welcomed and understood their role within the organization. They also emphasized feedback at key intervals – 1 and 2 weeks, 1 and 3 months, 1 year, etc.

Each new hire was paired with a more senior or tenured employee who provided coaching feedback and training and served as a sounding board. New hires were encouraged to create their own goals and then check in with their manager to discuss how their role impacted overall business objectives.

Best Branded Experience – IPG Mediabrands

Julie Veloz – Vice President, Learning Development North America, IPG Mediabrands

IPG Mediabrands FLITE program created an exceptional, branded, seamless end-to-end journey for employees. Mediabrands’ onboarding experience included beautifully branded FLITE toolkits which provided the necessary information for both new hires and hiring managers – it explained what the new hire should expect during the pre-boarding and onboarding experience as well as what was expected of managers during this crucial time period. These toolkits connected new hires to learning opportunities that guided them through their first 30/60/90 days, informed them to schedule a check-in with their manager, and then encouraged them to provide feedback at regular intervals throughout their first 90 days.

Strategic ROI Award – General Electric Company

Michele Terry – Manager, Onboarding Technologies, General Electric Company

General Electric Company’s (GE) strategic onboarding process uncovered time savings of 50 minutes per new hire (saving approximately $1MM/year) and eliminated 1200+ pages of paper (saving approximately $1.3MM/year). GE rolled out a streamlined experience in 71 countries creating a total savings of $6.5MM over three years.
